D'Black Beauty
I bought a black jacket at Singapore about two years ago and due to wear and tear of daily usage, the black became gray with dirty white spots. As I have experience in dyeing, I searched for black dye until I found this Rit Dye Black Powder and, WOW I have a Black Beauty.

Superb!
Not having dyed anything before in my life, I wasn't expecting much when I tried this on my favorite jacket (grey), which had somehow acquired several bleach stains. I figured it was worth a shot, though. It turned out lovely. Nice, even black all the way around, without a hint of the stains or splotches of any type. The jacket looks even better than it did when I originally bought it. Now I don't have to toss it -- I'm thrilled!Great product!

skip the washing machine method
First of all these prices are insane.. go to your local grocery store or craft store for 2.99 a box.Second, make sure your fabric is cotton! If it is a blend or completely synthetic this will not work - there are synthetic fabric dyes just google it.I use Rit dyes to color both fabrics and other natural fibers for my business. I have tried other 'professional' dyes that required mixing in other chemicals and constant attention. They were all a waste of time and money. I always come back to Rit to fix the mess left by other products.Perhaps others have left their own suggestions but what I have found with Rit is that you should use a stock pot or plastic tub with hot water to open up the fibers in the fabric so they grab the dye. If you are going to be using more than a gallon of water, add a second pack for good measure (when you buy it at normal prices this isn't out of the question). Add the suggested amount of salt no matter what (non iodized...

Great dye
I used 2 packs of dye for an Ikea chair and ottoman cover that I made myself from painters drop cloth- I used it in my washing machine and it came out perfect, if you have a top-loader no worries- it did not stain my machine and no messy clean up either. The color came out perfect no spots like you can get with hand dying. ( mixed the dye in a large soda bottle with the salt and added it to water while the machine was filling then added the covers, before the agitation cycle ( 20min.) was over I stop the machine and for the next 1.5h I let it sit and just agitated it for a minute or so every 10 min., after time was up I let the machine run a normal cycle ( no soap ))

perfect!
I've been dyeing fabric, mostly shirts and pants, for years, but I'd never used Dylon before, only Rit, with mixed results. At the risk of stating the obvious, since it seems like people are complaining about the color, I'm just going to go through the whole process of how I do this. Hope it helps, and I apologize if it sounds a little too Captain Obvious.First of all, each packet of dye is meant to only dye about 1/2 a pound of fabric--a large t-shirt, something like that. The more items you try to dye with one packet, the weaker the color is going to be. I usually dye two adult small or medium shirts with one packet. I could probably do more, but I rarely need to, so why mess around with it?Second, I try to use the bare minimum amount of water I can get away with. The more water you use to mix the dye, the weaker the color. When I mix the dye, here's what I do: I use a large crock pot/slow cooker and fill it about halfway with water. Turn it to...

When in Doubt, Use more
I recently purchased this dye to re-dye some of my fading black clothing. It was about 15 items of clothing ranging from small to medium, mostly shirts but did include two pants and one bed sheet. I used three packets (the packets are the size of your palm), it got my clothes a shade darker. Looking back on it now, I should have used more, about 5-6 to get the black that I wanted. Well live and learn. So my point is that the packet says that one is enough to dye to one large shirt to full black, so if you have a few items you want to dye all at once just to be on the safe side, use more. And it works really well on full cotton clothing; those items absorbed the dye best.

Makes a HUGE difference
Tie Dye is one of the first techniques that I teach annually in a Fiber and Textile class. Absolutely, no doubt about it, the Soda Ash dye fixer makes a huge difference in the final result.Using it yields deep, vivid colors that stay gorgeous after many washes. Without Soda Ash, the colors look great at first but almost immediately fade away to almost nothing. If you are going to go through the effort of proper tye dying, you need to use this or you are wasting your time and money.Mix 1 cup Soda Ash per gallon of warm water, soak (pre-washed) fabic for about an hour, then wring/squeeze water solution out of fabric by hand... it's ready to tie dye.Use it.

This really works
Soda ash comes with the jacquard tie dye kit, but I needed extra. Soda ash really is the key ingredient when doing tie dye because it keeps the dye from fading and bleeding. Our tie dye shirts and pillowcases still look great even after many washings, and I attribute that to the soda ash.

The product is fine
...but it is overpriced here. Try to procure locally if possible. I found it locally for half the price I paid on Amazon...and I am usually pleased with Amazon prices. I did not do enough pre-purchase research on this one.

Okay product.
The box I received was slightly crushed and the powdered dye had gotten inside the box as well so try to be careful when opening it because it will get on your hands. Followed the instructions exactly and the color came out alright. It wasn't denim blue or a dark navy but it was passable and easy to use. The dye does have a slight smell but it's not so strong that it would bother me.

Where Can I buy Fabric Dye

Most fabric dyes are full of harmful chemicals that are no good for the environment when factories dispose of them and they’re not good for workers who are around the stuff day in and day out, either. Dyeing fabric is time consuming, I won’t lie, but for a lot of that time you don’t have to actually be in the room. That lovely purple color means that you can also use it to make your own natural fabric dye. Red cabbage isn’t the only food that’s great for dyeing fabrics. The salt acts as a natural fixative , which helps your fabric take the dye. If you want to get super crafty, though, you can dye your very own fabric. You probably know by now that conventional cotton is bad news , but there’s another part of the fabric production process that bears mentioning: dyes. 8 cups of water 1/2 cup table salt undyed organic hemp or organic cotton fabric tongs colander enough red cabbage, chopped fine, to cover your fabric when it’s in the pot more water Directions. You can use fruits, veggies, flowers, and herbs in vibrant colors to create your own, non-toxic dyes. In fact, some food-based dyes produce much more vibrant colors. Here’s how the dye looked after 15 minutes of boiling:.
